Wooden Storage Shed Plans | Build A Wooden Storage Shed From Plan

Posted March 27th, 2010 by Bigglesbarker and filed in Shed Building Plans

When storage becomes a problem with the scarcely enough room to put the car in the garage and every drawer and cupboard in the house full to the brim then perhaps it’s time to start thinking about creating some storage space.

A wooden storage shed is an ideal solution and with a decent set of plans it’s an ideal DIY project for the summer.

Your first purchase should be a good set of wooden storage shed plans; these are easy enough to find online. These sets o f plans will have many different designs for you to choose from though the required floor space will affect your choice somewhat.

Having decided on the type of storage shed that you would like to build and also the site you will need to find out if planning permission is needed, building codes can vary from area to area so it’s better to check than to go ahead and build only to be told to take it down again.

Knowing where you intend to build along with the information on your storage shed plans should be enough to satisfy most planning officials. If applicable you may need to consult with your local tenants association.

Assuming no problems with the above then you can order your materials from your local supplier; your plans should have a breakdown of all wood lengths, fittings and fixtures. Some timber merchants will cut some or all of your wood to size.

While waiting for your materials to arrive you can prepare the base or foundation. A firm and level base will add years to the life of your shed and allow the smooth operation of doors and windows.

You have a choice when it comes down to choosing your foundation between pier and beam, concrete slab, and treated timber runners. I once used concrete fence posts from the local demolition yard and they work quite well as long as you remember to take into account any tapering.

Using your wooden shed storage plans you can now begin your build by working your way through the set stages.

How to Use Shed Plans to Build Your Outdoor Storage or Garden Shed

Posted March 13th, 2010 by Bigglesbarker and filed in Shed Building Plans

How to build a shed is not difficult to learn and can be accomplished successfully even by a beginner, if they take the time to prepare properly for the task right from the beginning. This starts by making the decision as to whether you want to do this from scratch using wood shed plans, or construct it using one of the prefab kits that are on the market now. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. There are some steps that are basic that you are going to need to do no matter which method you use.

The basic steps refer to that you first need to know where you are going to erect your shed. You want some place where it is easy to get to ,yet will blend in nicely with your landscaping. The next decision will be as to how big do you want it. This will be determined on just what you want to be able to store, and what your budget will allow. Finally you will need to prepare the ground for your shed by making sure it is level. Now this is where you will start to see some difference, depending on which method you have chosen.

If you have decided to build by wood shed plans then the first thing you need to do is go and research what is available to you. When you check out the plans you will see a large variety of styles. Pick the one that you like the most. Make sure the one you choose matches your skills level. Take your time to study your wood shed plans to determine what materials you will need.

Everything should be outlined in your how to build a shed instructions that comes with your plan. The plans may also allow you some options on style, so make sure you get the material to fit that style. Determine what the pattern dictates for the base. You will need to prepare your foundation according to the instructions before you attempt any kind of construction. Take your time, and follow the instructions step by step. Do not attempt to take any short cuts.

Now how to build your shed by kit is somewhat easier, but does take some planning and instructions as well. When you go to buy your kit you will probably see some floor models. Choose the one you like but remember a few things.

First of all is it going to fill the purpose it is intended for. Its easy to get caught up in the esthetic part of it, but you really need to stay with what is practical for this project. The other thing is, some of the things you see on the floor models may be accessories which do not come with the kit. So determine which ones they are. If you feel that you want to have them, ensure that you are going to be comfortable installing them, and that they are worth the investment.

Once you get your kit home, lay out all of your materials to be sure that everything is there and nothing is missing. Prepare the foundation according to the instructions. Take some time to read over the instructions carefully. You don’t want to make any mistakes to the materials where you would be delayed while waiting for replacements.
